hello october - all hallow's read & halloreads

October is finally here! And with that I decided to participate in a few reading challenges, although my schedule looks like it's going to explode (with my internship, the book fair and a paper to write...) but on another note, I want to get as much out of the spooky season as I can, so give me all the challenges. On this post I will tell you about the two challenges, All Hallow's Read & Halloreads. Also, this is my first post in English on here because these challenges are international and I post about them on Instagram too, aaand the majority of books are in English.

All Hallow's Read

This is a challenge created by Chloé and Lucy. You can find their posts about the challenge here and here. You can find all info there, but here a quick summary. The challenge goes from October 1st to October 31st, it is multi-tiered, and all tiers are inspired by Halloween. Here is a list of all tiers, you can choose maximum two, and every one has different prompts. I decided to go for two (just to challenge myself a bit more), and also, you can apply a book to multiple prompts, so I'll have my luck with that!

black flame candle: a book with antagonistic witches
For this I will read The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw which sits on my tbr since last autumn season. Somehow I haven't read it. It's about three witches that curse a small coastal town in the United States and that sounds so much up my alley!

coven: an all-magic ensemble
Oh boy, I feel like I have read every YA fantasy novel already that would apply to that! But maybe I'll try Bloodlines by Richelle Mead again. I read the first two or three novels before I just stopped, and I don't remember why. I actually loved the Vampire Academy series. I would re-read them but I'm afraid I get addicted to the entire series again, and that wouldn't be helpful for this challenge! Bloodlines features vampires, dhampirs, witches and alchemists, so I'm definitely served.

nice and accurate prophecies: a book with psychics
For this I'll read (or am reading) Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab. This is the sequel to City of Ghosts. It's about a twelve year old named Cassidy, who had a near-death experience and since then can wander between the world of the living and the in-between. She also has a ghost friend called Jacob. In the second book she faces a poltergeist she needs to send on, so this is the perfect read!

owen’s family curse: a cursed character or a prophecy plot
For this I will re-read The Raven Boys. I don't know if I still have my German copy, otherwise I'll get the ebook. I pretty much think you know what the book is about, but it's about a girl called Blue who lives in a family full of psychics (so this would technically apply to the prompt above, too). One of them tell her a prophecy, that the boy she kisses will die. So we kind of have both a cursed character and a prophecy plot!

witch’s familiar: a book with a family pet/companion
For this it's Tunnel of Bones again. Cassidy has a cat named grim who accompanies her and her parents on their trip to Paris.

Also, I need to choose one prompt of either "Ghosts" or "Demon". I chose Ghosts.

hill house: a book set in a haunted location
Tunnel of Bones is all about visiting haunted locations, either with Cassidy who can visit the In Between or her parents, who are filming a TV series about haunted places!

a taste for blood: book with a red cover
Ok, technically I could again go for Tunnel of Bones but at this point I feel like I'm cheating. So I'm going for Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury which is set in October and close to Halloween - also, my edition has a red cover.

immortal being: read a gothic classic
I feel like this is the perfect prompt for me, but I haven't decided yet. Maybe I'm going for Dracula by Bram Stoker (inspired by the prompt), or rather for Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Probably I will decide this spontaneously, I'll let you know as soon as I know.

prince of the night: a Dracula retelling
But for this I exactly know what I'm going to read: Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco, the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper. It's not a one to one retelling but it quite heavily relies on the Dracula myth that was shaped by Stoker, so I guess that's okay! Audrey Rose, a young aristocrat from London, goes to Romania to study forensic medicine and has to solve a mystery yet again.

reflection: read a graphic novel
This is probably the only prompt where I won't go spooky because I have so many graphic novels on my tbr and this is my chance to read them! I'll update here as soon as I know which one I choose.

what we do in the shadows: urban magic
Honestly, you can put any book I just mentioned here into that category. I'm still waiting for the perfect dark academia witches novel that hasn't come across yet. But I'll look for another book and leave this blank for now because I want to be spontaneous and be supriiiiised.

Another prompt I need to choose from another tier, I chose this from "Werewolves":

beacon hills: a book set in a small town
(I love this Teen Wolf reference) I will go for The Wicked Deep here because why the heck not. Also I'm lazy and a slow reader.

Follow my updates on Instagram! I'll post under #allhallowsreadchallenge.

I also will participate in an Instagram reading challenge called

read a book with magic or paranormal elements
Oh boy. Let me just be lazy again (also this is another challenge), and go for Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab here. The word "paranormal" is dropped here so often it's the perfect read for this prompt. Also a lot of paranormal things happen, of course.

read a book with a cover that reminds you of halloween
This screams The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury to me. I think it's the most Halloween cover I own, I mean, it has a skeleton and pumpkins on it! Also it's very short so I hope I won't struggle with this one.

read a book that happens during autumn or halloween
Something Wicked This Way Comes sets in autumn and Halloween, but if I come across another book that's not listed here already, I'll replace this.

Follow my updates on Instagram! I'll post under #halloreads2019.

Do you have any suggestions for me so I can diversify this a little? Let me know in the comments below!
